Charlie Rominger Memorial Scholarship

The Yolo County Farm Bureau Education Corporation Charlie Rominger Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Charlie Rominger. Charlie was a long-time Director of the Yolo County Farm Bureau and served as the Chair of the Taxes and Land Use Committee Chair. He worked very hard to protect and preserve Yolo County's agricultural lands. 

This scholarship is designed to give aid to students with a desire to pursue a career in the agricultural industry.

This $1,500 scholarship is awarded based upon academic achievement, career goals, extracurricular activities, determination, leadership skills, and a commitment to study agriculture.

Yolo County High School seniors entering a four-year accredited college or university or a Junior College AND pursuing a career in the agricultural industry are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Students must be a resident of the State of California and a US citizen.

We are happy to announce this year we have been fortunate enough to select three recipients for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Congratulations to the 2021-2022 Recipients!

Yolo County Farm Bureau is pleased to announce Holly Doherty; Thomas Simas; and Taralynn Mitchell have been chosen to receive the 2022 Yolo County Farm Bureau Charlie Rominger Memorial Scholarship.

Holly Doherty

Holly is the daughter of Tim and Susie Doherty. She graduated from Woodland Christian High School with a 4.29 GPA. She has excelled in school and was on the Basketball Team; the FFA Parli Pro Team, and volunteered as a Teacher’s Assistant. During this time she served as the Chapter Reporter for one year and the Chapter President for two years.

Holly has worked on the family farm, Circle D Farms, and also started her own business called Bird Creek Beef where she processes steers from her own cattle herd and sells the meat to the community.

Holly has decided to major in agbusiness at Oklahoma State University. After college she plans to return home to work on the family farm and expand her own business.

Thomas Simas

Thomas is the son of Chris and Bonnie Simas. He graduated from Esparto High School with a 4.26 GPA. He has excelled in school and participated in 4-H as Club President; the FFA; the NHS; the LEO; Esparto High Football Team; the Golf Team; and the Cross Country Team. During this time he also served the American Legion as the Boys State Delegate.

Thomas has worked at the Valley Foods Supermarket and at Capay Valley Lavender.

Thomas has decided to major in Biochemistry- Plant Science Research. After college he plans to find a career as a researcher to further the development of agriculture chemicals to the creation of GMOs.

Taralynn Mitchell

Taralynn is the daughter of Samantha Mitchell-Russo. She graduated from Woodland Senior High School with a 3.80 GPA. She has excelled in school and participated on the Woodland FFA Officer Team; the Yolo Section FFA Officer Team; FFA Agriculture Academy; the FFA CDE Agronomy Judging Team; and the Softball Team at Woodland High. During this time she also served as a Member of the Woodland FFA Chapter receiving numerous awards.

Taralynn has worked on SAE projects for Fresh Farm Egg sales; Fresh Flower Sales; and her Breeding project with rabbits.

Taralynn has decided to major in Horticulture at Modesto Junior College.

Yolo County Farm Bureau is a non-governmental, non-profit, voluntary membership, California corporation whose purpose is to protect and promote agricultural interests in Yolo County and to find solutions to problems of the farm, the farm home, and the rural community.
